Earlier this year I was lucky enough to spend a few weeks traveling around Assam, India.  This Photograph is probably one of my favourites from the trip, taken in Sivadol (the Temple of Lord Shiva) in the city of Sivasagar (the ocean of Shiva).

Sivadol Temple, Sivasagar, Assam

Sivadol is one of three temples in Sivasagar the other two being Vishnudol (the Temple of Lord Vishnu) and Devidol (the Temple of the Goddess Durga). Located on the banks of Sivasagar in the heart of the city.  The lake was commissioned in 1731 in memory of the Ahom king Siva Singha.

Just moments before we had the temple to ourselves and received a blessing from the priest. As we walked around it filled with people and I was able to get this photo.

  1. I love this picture. So atmospheric, the faces filled with expression, unaware of the camera. Like an old oil painting.
